Road agency to resume issuing offence notices
#1
The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) says it will resume issuing courtesy letters and enforcement orders to offending motorists.

The agency’s Chief Operations Officer, Thabo Tsholatsane – who is responsible for the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) – on Tuesday said the South African Post Office (SAPO) has now resolved the backlog created by the lengthy postal strike.

The strike meant that camera-generated penalties, courtesy letters for handwritten notices and the subsequent enforcement orders could not be issued and posted.

“Road users need to be aware that camera infringement notices will be posted and followed up with a courtesy letter if it is unpaid within 32 days. If that is ignored, then an enforcement order will be issued.

“An enforcement order means an infringer will not be able to renew their vehicle licence, driving licence card, professional driving permit or be in a position to register any new vehicle/s at any traffic department, driving licence testing centre or any vehicle testing station,” said Tsholatsane.

Motorists and fleet owners or proxies should note that enforcement orders that were previously issued and served will be reactivated on the AARTO system
